The Beresford Arms Hotel is a touch of benign regality in San Farncisco's Tenderloin - an unlikely place to encounter a crowd of dreadlocked brethern smoking Transamerica Pyramid-sized spliffs and hanging out in the sedate lobby,. The hotel had become the headquarters for Bob Marley and the Wailers during a series of concerts that included an appearance at the Greek Theater.
I visited the Beresford a couple of nights after the band totally electrified 4000 fans at the Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium. I had been waiting around the stage door after the concert when Gilly, the Wailers travelling cook, had ambled over and asked where I got the Marley T-shirt I was wearing. I explained that I had printed a number of shirts and and would be happy to give him one upon my next visit to to the hotel. So I was at the Beresford with several Ethiopian friends, trying to parlay a T-shirt into an interview with Marley. To read more, downloand now!
