MARLEY SPEAKS - A Conversation with Rastafari's Reggae Prophet
Article and Photos by Jeff Cathrow
Vol 8 #4 - 1990

The Beresford Arms Hotel is a touch of benign regality in San Farncisco's Tenderloin - an unlikely place to encounter a crowd of dreadlocked brethern smoking Transamerica Pyramid-sized spliffs and hanging out in the sedate lobby,.  The hotel had become the headquarters for Bob Marley and the Wailers during a series of concerts that included an appearance at the Greek Theater.

I visited the Beresford a couple of nights after the band totally electrified 4000 fans at the Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium.  I had been waiting around the stage door after the concert when Gilly, the Wailers travelling cook, had ambled over and asked where I got the Marley T-shirt I was wearing.  I explained that I had printed a number of shirts and and would be happy to give him one upon my next visit to to the hotel.  So I was at the Beresford with several Ethiopian friends, trying to parlay a T-shirt into an interview with Marley.   To read more, downloand now!
