Luciano Performs at Crash Mansion

As Part of His Summer Tour

Photos and Review by Jan Salzman

Luciano
Luciano at Crash Mansion, LA
I eagerly anticipated this show as, about six weeks prior, I caught up with Luciano at a CD release party held at a Jamaica Live event insie the club, Dragonfly.  This Crash Mansion show, in downtown LA, was another great production put on by the group known as Jamaica Live.

The club was packed as Jah Messenjah Band took the stage about 11 pm.  First up was Luciano’s long-time music associate and friend, Mikey General, who livened up the crowd with “Power of the Most High, Jah.”  At one point during his show, Mikey told about the tribulations he went through in choosing to wear dreadlocks, and his choice to follow the Rastafari path.  He did a short but magnificent set.

Then came Jah Messenjah and Roots and Culture king, Luciano.  He entered the stage quietly, singing “I Remember When.”  He changed the mood radically with the next tune, the famous “Messenjah,” from his album of the same name.  His next song was “Give Praise to Rastafar-I,” from his Serious Times CD.   He has such a wonderful repertoire to draw from that every song performed seemed to be a hit song.  He then performed “Ulterior Motive” and “Sweep Over My Soul” from the Sweep Over My Soul CD.  There was a wonderful medley from his legendary Where There Is Life CD, which included “Who Can It Be,” “Your

World and Mine,” and “Good God.”  He blessed us with three songs from his latest release, Jah Is My Navigator, including the title track, the Bob Marley classic, “Jah Live,” and his newest hit single, “No Evil,” which closed his show.  Always show so entertaining to watch, he is a magnificent dancer and really flashes his locks as he bounds across the stage.  He returned for the encore, performing “It’s Me Again Jah,” during which he kneeled in prayer.

Luciano is a bright star in the sky.  I never want to miss one of his shows, and you shouldn’t either.  Be sure and catch Luciano and the Jah Messenjah tour this summer.  Thank you to publicist Russell Gerlach for making this review possible. Image
